Budget Champions 2006
Now inviting team owners to join Budget Champions. Do you want to compete with a fun, interesting, group of fantasy baseball players? If so why not try Budget Champions!!! Budget Champions is a Group Function so you can still enjoy your own private league that your initial team or teams were entered in. Add in the fact that after you pay a small entry fee of $30 you can enhance your CDM winnings if you can do well in Budget Champions with overall prizes First through Sixth Place Overall in Budget Champions and monthly prizes for highest point total for First and Second Place for Budget Champions. The monthly game would include for April: (April 2nd- April 30th), May: May 1st-June 4th, June: (June 5th-July 2nd), July: (July 3rd-July 30th), August: (July 31st-August 3rd), and September: (September 4th-October 1st). Like last year the number of paid entries we get will decide on what the payouts are. As of 3/16/2006 we have 21 members that have paid there entry fees. Last year we had 36 members. First Place won $420 last year.
An example of a payout structure for 36 members would look like this for 2006:
First Place in Budget Champions Overall: $420
Second Place in Budget Champions Overall: $175
Third Place in Budget Champions Overall: $110
Fourth Place in Budget Champions Overall: $ 75
Fifth Place in Budget Champions Overall: $ 50
Sixth Place in Budget Champions Overall: $ 40
The winner of highest points per month as listed above will win:
First Place highest Points for the month: $25
Second Place highest Points for the month: $10
Anyone who would like to join may do so, e-mail me at scottjagnew@hotmail.com and express your interest. Then I will put you on the list as a potential individual who wants to be in this league then I will e-mail you the address for Budget Champions headquarters and upon your Champions Fee of $30 being paid I will send you an e-mail of the group name and password. All entry fees must be postmarked before April 2nd, 2006 to be eligible to be in Budget Champions! Any questions do not hesitate to ask. I look forward to a fun 2006 Season!

2006 March Madness College Basketball Tournament
Uncle Jim and I have created a Men’s College Basketball Pick’EM Tourney Game which can be found at
http://tournament.fantasysports.yahoo.com/men
Steps to get into this group which is open to all fantasy baseball players who like college basketball.
1. Upon getting to the site you will need a yahoo ID. If you don’t have one you can create one it is free to do so.
2. Click on the sign up link for the Pick’ EM Game (this is where you can use an existing yahoo ID or create one
3. After logging into yahoo you will be asked for a group ID #, the group ID # is: 2696.
4. The password for this group is: molson
5. Group name is PBR Champs
6. After Selection Sunday on March 12th you will be able to make your picks for the basketball tourney, picks must be in fifteen minutes before first round games are played .
Scoring is based on making correct picks: First Round is 1 pt, Second Round is 2pts, Third Round is 4pts, Fourth Round is 8pts, Semifinals is 16pts, and picking the 2006 Champs is 32 pts.
Anyone is invited to participate in this group, if you would like to have some side coupon action. Cost will be $5 and must be postmarked to me no later then March 15th. A March 16th postmark will disqualify you from the coupon side of the league. Prizes will be based on total amount of coupon paid entries. Prizes will be for First place: 75%, Second Place 15%, and Third Place 10%. Any ties will be decided in this way: At the end of the game, if two or more players finish with the same overall point total, the following system will be used to break the tie:
1. Closest to the total points scored by the winning team in the final game
2. Closest to the total points scored by the losing team in the final game
3. Closest to the total points scored by both teams in the final game If, at this point, a tie still exists, the entrants will remain tied in the standings and split the appropriate prize.
Funds should be sent to me, where they will be held in a secure account. Cash, Check, Money Order, or Cashier Check. Scott J. Agnew

02/15 05:44:33 bb50 Luny's MAC Team
Now inviting team owners for MAC! In addition to your regular Budget Baseball entry, why not also enter a team in a CDM Budget Baseball MAC league this year? MAC is now in its 5th season, and all are welcome to join. There is no additional cost beyond the normal CDM entry fee. WE HAVE FILLED OUR FIRST LEAGUE!! HURRY AND JOIN THE FUN!
How to Participate:
League 50 is now FULL; Please enter your team in to League 51 * Enter a team into Budget Baseball, and be sure to choose "Enter my team with placement restrictions"
* Look for "Enter my team in this league -" and type in 51
* Leave your roster empty (when later prompted, choose "No I want to enter my players later")
* Your roster will automatically be filled by CDM with the players selected by last year's MAC winner, KLN Mac Attack
· After week 1 has started, each team owner can then manage his/her team as deemed fit per normal CDM rules. Team rosters and points will diverge beginning with week 2.
I have formed a group for the MAC Coupon guys; when I receive coupon payment I will e-mail the access info; the access info is also located at Summit's Bud-Ball web page where you can print out the official entry form for this side game;
http://www.insystem.com/bb/
The MAC League will begin with League 50 this year; when that fills up (IT IS FULL) we will then begin filling league 51, and then League 52.

ex. Canseco tested positive for roids after being in jail for 4 months. Trace elements can stay in your system so how can u grand farther punishments for that. They are going to have to fix this system.
08/11 13:59:46 bb98 BornDiamondCuttas
Ps..they also do not know how long some of the stuff stays in your system. You could not take steriods for 4 years and still show a positive sign by lil things from the steriods still in system. So Raffy while a liar to grand jury never could have done anything wrong or illegal in baseball. COme on who thinks Raffy who has every record he is going to get and knew they were cracking down still took roids this year? I do not. But trace elements could have been left that we have not enough research on which in turn could produce positive results years after you stopped taking them. How can you have punishments on something you barely have research on?

Rafael Palmeiro
Let’s just all take a deep breath.
Everyone seems to be a little too worked up about Rafael Palmeiro who is set to return from his 10-game suspension today (although its expected that he won’t play).
If you want to go off on his little on his Clinton-esque performance in front of Congress, that’s fine. If you are stunned by his audacity and stupidity in continuing to use steroids after so brazenly denying it, that’s fine, too. If you are upset about the fact that he had a 6-RBI game against your favorite team after he tested positive and before MLB announced the positive test, by all means have at it. But all the angst about the Hall of Fame issues and the place of steroid users in The Grand History of the Game seems a little misplaced.
We are all working under baseball’s Grand Illusion. We labor under the misconception that we can compare Babe Ruth, Hank Aaron and Barry Bonds because the game has been essentially the same all of these years. Other sports have changed so much that players from the past wouldn’t even recognize the game, but baseball ...baseball ... is still similar enough that we can have the discussion. We can reasonably compare Barry Bonds and Babe Ruth. And if not we can certainly compare Hank Aaron and Barry Bonds. And if not we can certainly compare Rafael Palmeiro to the rest of the members of the Hall of Fame ... And we can equalize his stats to adjust for his steroids issue and THEN make the comparison ... right?
Frankly, no.
The game has constantly changed. It has seen small, substantial, significant, and yes Virginia, dramatic changes over the years. To separate out the “Steroids Era” from the game is hypocritical if you don’t go further and separate out other stretches in baseball history.
It makes as much or even more sense to separate the era after the mound was lowered, or the era of medical advancements, TJS and the like, or the post-nautilus and year-round training era. All of those changes to the game had much more dramatic overall effects on the game’s players and stats than steroids.
So did the new smaller ballparks, plane travel, expansion, the arrival of Black and Hispanic players. So did the centerfield camera, advancements in scouting and advanced scouting, the availability of video and the further ability to collect and access extensive video of every player in the game under every conceivable situation and place it on every player’s personal DVD player right in their locker or charter seat. Even split stats have changed the game. Ask any lefty specialist and every lefty hitter.
There are more than a few changes to the game that should irk current HOFers as much, if not more than steroid use does. And if the discussion is era comparison, those changes should be just as big a part of the discussion as steroids are. But for some reason they aren’t. Maybe it’s just because this is what is fronting the USA Today sports pages this week, but steroids seem to be a history deal-breaker in many fan’s minds.
We also tend to look on players like Palmeiro (and I’ll limit my discussion to him because he’s the only HOF candidate to this point who has indisputably been proven to use steroids) and think that they were the only players taking them - that they gained tremendous advantage from steroid and stood as chemically-addled supermen among mere boys. I think its closer to the truth to think that steroid use was (is?) fairly wide spread and it was (is?) used much more extensively among pitchers, especially relief pitchers, than we normally account for.
How many homers did Palmeiro hit off of a steroid-using pitcher who had an extra half-foot on his fastball, or a hair more life on his change up or slider, or was just that much more effective in third day of work in four days because of it?
How many homers did he hit because he played in hitting-friendly Camden Yards and Ameriquest Park?
How many homers did he hit because he spent his entire career hitting pitchers off of lower mound than did Ted Williams, Mickey Mantle or Willie Mays?
How many extra homers did it mean to Hank Aaron that he hit against relief pitchers and starters that didn’t have steroids available to them? How many homers did it mean to Babe Ruth that he never hit against black pitchers, or reliever specialists?
You and I know a little about baseball and the answers to these questions are beyond us.
Let’s keep in mind that during the steroids induced statistical explosion, all of two guys had 70 HR seasons and there were a handful of 60+ HR seasons. In a five year span I don’t how many actual player/seasons there were but it was well over a 1,000. The 70 HR seasons accounted for 0.002% of those player/seasons. No matter how you slice it those are still historical achievements. Can you compare their 70 HR efforts to Ruths 60 HRs? No. But can you compare them to their peers during teh time they played? I think so, unless you are willing to accpet that Bonds, McGwire and Sosa were the only guys out there juicing. I think that’s a leap.
Let’s keep in mind also that for much of Palmeiro’s career steroids, while certainly unethical were not illegal.
It seems to me we are stuck with dealing with the 90s and beyond in the same way we treat other stretches of baseball. Steroids were what was (is?) happening in the game in the time. The years before had “greenies”, the mid-40’s had WWII, The 50’s had about half the teams we do now. The 60’s had a higher mound. Some consideration is given to these things when we think Hall of Fame, but nowhere near as much as we seem to be set to give steroids.
In my mind the steroid factor might sway me in a borderline player when it comes to the Hall and Raffy may be one of those players, but it wouldn’t, on its own, cause me to dismiss a worthy candidate. And I won’t ever again compare the feats of Bonds, McGwire and Sosa to Ruth or Maris, any more than I would compare the feats of Johan Santana and Bob Gibson, but I still believe that what they did was remarkable and notable within the context of the era they played ... the steroids era. That’s all that its fair to do in my mind, unless we want to segregate baseball memories into groups of players that played in all of these different eras.
And comparing a steroid user to Pete Rose in terms of the Hall of Fame? That’s comparing apples and dump trucks. Please ... that’s a whole ‘nother column.

Well, I would like to answer your question reguarding the use of names and stats of players and how would I would feel if somebody were using my name for profit. Seeing as the person that would be using my name and stats would be allowing the people who indirectly pay my enormous salary play a game that would put even more money in my pocket, I'm pretty sure I would support everything about it. The reason players make the money they do has NOTHING to do with the owner signing the check and EVERYTHING to do with the family that shells out money to go to games, pay for games on television AND buy products that advertise with baseball. If all fans stopped watching and caring about baseball, there would be alot more mechanics and carpenters in this country. I understand this won't happen during my lifetime but with all the problems in baseball right now, why in God's green earth would ANYBODY that is even remotely related to baseball and the players do ANYTHING that would anger their core fan base??? If you would like to dispute a single "fact" that I have mentioned feel free.
Thanks for your time
If you want to get past an 11, work on your short game (It is more then 1/2 the game). However, most mechanics and carpenters don't have the time nor money to even dream of being an 11 so consider yourself lucky..

I would like you to add me to the list of people emailing you concerning CDM. I order the MLB, NFL, and NBA packages and go to about 30 MLB games a year. I would like to let you know that I will not "chance" playing the CDM game this year as I am not sure how it will turn out. However, to this end, I also will not be ordering the MLB package or going to any games at Tropicana Feild this year. I am a sports fanatic that enjoys almost all sports. I was a golf pro for 7 years where I played golf with many of the Pittsburgh Pirates, Chicago White Sox, and then Cincinnatti Reds in Bradenton. I can't believe I would not be considered your core audience. It just shows the "greed" that can develop when somebody envies somebody else's ideas. I am sure my son was looking forward to baseball this year (he is 4 and I started taking him when he was 2) but I believe he will learn far more from not going. Good luck in your belief that you have a monopoly on this but you will definitly lose more fans then you will gain. I figure the money I save can pay for some football games down in Miami.
Thanks for your time,

Not to prolong your agony, but honestly. 1) yes many more folks have
commented about the greatness of other games vis-a-vis CDM. I am not saying
that they are right just that everyone has her/his favorite provider. 2)
Everyone who plays the various games launched today on about 25 websites
spends varying amounts of time trying to win. For some, it can be 30
minutes a day, for others it is as little as five, as you suggest. The
point i was trying to make is simply this--we deliberately launched in this
order so that those who were used to playing the more traditional games, on
whatever site, would see them today and begin the process. We do plan to
launch different games that will have no appeal to you, but in our opinion
(i am bearing in mind that you believe me to be a moron)are much simpler to
understand, are much quicker to play, will have higher rewards, and yet are
more difficult to win. We do believe that there will be more players this
year than last, as we try to expand the market to the more casual, but still

I just responded to an email from MLB about their "new" fanatsy baseball games. I told them thanks but no thanks. settle with CDM sports or I will attend no Major League games in 2005. As President of a Youth Sports League I organize several outings per year worth well over $ 5,000. to both Yankees and Mets. If they start to see the Math(i.e. lets risk $ 10,000 to get an extra $5.00-$10.00) maybe they will see the light. If most CDM customers make MLB realize that they have a loty more to lose than they have to gain maybe our voive will be heard. I also cc'ed the Yankees and the Mets. Lets your wallets be heard!!

You had me confused, but I see now what you meant by it.
I'm alittle
surprised byt the lsit of licensed providers you put out, I guess when
mlb.com said all of last years except one I expected to see many more on the
list. I didn't realize that so many of the fantasy baseball providers
weren't licensed.
I have no problem with mlb.com wanting in on the fantasy business, just the
fact that it's been a do it our way or don't do it at all attitude that has
come through on this.
Seems to me there's plenty of yusiness out there and whoever puts out the
game someone wants to play is where they will give their business.
Some to
mlb.com games, some to ESPN or Sportsline and some to CDM or some other
game. Nobody will have a game that everyone likes or plays, and at the same
time many of us will play at 2 or 3 different sites. Maybe more if we're
real fanatics.
Good luck on your opening day tomorrow

I'm alittle confused by your comment,
"also, since you brought it up, ensures that none of the stats etc are used

Are you saying that CDM is using the stats/game for gambling?
If so then any of the "licensees" that you listed in your press release that
offer prize money are doing the same.

them.

Mr Bowman
I did answer your question yesterday (or Mon night) in one of my other
emails but I will again. Original question was, how would I like someone
using my name/likeness for commercial purposes?
My answer to that was as
long as they weren't trying to hurt my name or business it would be fine
with me. example
I make and sell golf clubs, a local golf course runs an add in the paper and
they say that I play golf regulary at their course, thus using (or hoping
to) my name to draw players to their course. Do I get all upset and ask for
compensation? NO, I call and thank them for the free advetrtising and for
probably drawing new customers to my business.
As to the new part of your question about my not endorsing or even DETESTING
their product, that seems like there could only be one answer.
However, I
didn't realize that the MLB Players (or mlb.com) detested fantasy baseball,
so I don't see how that part of your question is relevant.
As far as your Gulf of Mexico description, I doubt that once the season
starts many of us spend 45 mins per day on our teams but if we chose to it's
because that's what we want to do.
Where you come up with 5 mins per week for fantasy football is something I'd
like to know your secret for. I also play fant football (as well as
hoops/nascar and yes even some golf) and I'd sure like to be able to get by
with 5 mins a week on the game and be competitive.
I realize there is a market for shorter, easier games and as long as you're
not putting fnatasy sports into the catagory of gambling (with prize money)
I could care less how many of those you run.
Thanks again for the reply

As shown on MLB.com Press Release
NEW YORK -- MLB.com, the official website of Major League Baseball, today announced a preliminary list of fantasy game licensees for the 2005 season. As of today, MLB.com's 2005 official fantasy game licensing program will include the following providers: ESPN, Yahoo!Sports, Sportsline, AOL, The Sporting News, STATS, Inc, WhatIfSports, Baseball Manager, MJM Fantasy Sports, Fanstar Sports, Fantasy Sports Reality, All America Fantasy Sports, iTV Entertainment, RotoPlay, Sports Buff, The Fantasy Jungle, Electronic Ballpark, Inc. and Strat-O-Matic. The company said it expects to name several other licensees in the next few days.
At 12:01 a.m. on Thursday, Feb. 17, fantasy players will celebrate Opening Day of the 2005 fantasy season. At that time, MLB.com and its official fantasy game licensees will begin offering their fantasy game lineups for the upcoming season. In addition, MLB.com and its fantasy partners will offer fans a selection of innovative, fun, exciting and challenging new games starting in March and continuing throughout the 2005 season.
"We are especially pleased that every fantasy game licensee from last year, with only one exception, will be part of the 2005 fantasy game licensing program" said George Kliavkoff, senior vice president of business development for MLBAM, the interactive media and Internet company of Major League Baseball which runs MLB.com and the 30 individual team sites. "In addition, we expect the number of licensees this year to increase more than 50 percent over last year."

Mr Bowman
I have been thinking about your question of "shouldn't the players be
compensated for the use of their name/stats".
While I don't think they should in the case of fantasy companies but it
seems to me that is not the question here.
MLB.com has already compensated
the players with the $50 mil deal you made, so the questions are.
1 Does mlb.com have the right to try and
recover the $50 mil by trying to make the other fantasy companies pay?
Especially in the case of companies that don't care to use the logos or
likeness of players.
2. Why would mlb.com want the right to control fantasy baseball?
3. With the comments made about making fantasy baseball games easier to play
to attract the "less knowledegable fan" shouldn't mlb.com be concerned with
taking fantasy baseball from a game of skill, into a game of chance?
Putting it into the catagory of lotteries and gambling.
I heard on the mlb.com radio show with Gregg Klayman that only 1% of the
current fantasy players will be affected by this. He of course is referring
to myself and the many other CDM players who love the game they have now and
still ask.
Why do you insist on trying to take away our game?
Thanks again

Mr. Bowman...I will not get into name calling, but as far as your responses, you really don't have an idea do you? Do you actually think MLB/NFL/NBA front office personnel advance the popularity of their respective sport? I hate to inform you that your gravely mistaken. Bob, it is myself, my uncles, my grandfather, my great grandfather, and those before him, called a family tree.
In an anology think of it this way Mr. Bowman...The seed is the player, but the seed cannot germinate unless it has water, and that water is...THE FAN(short for fanatic, in case you forgot).
In other words my father and those before him who PURCHASED a TICKET(right to watch) have already PAID the player for their performance, and the byproduct of their performance is called a STATISTIC, and is how players are measured on their place in their respective sport.
In case you still don't get it...NO PAY(water) means NO PLAY, NO STATS, NO MEMORIBILIA, ETC,ETC...which means you have NO JOB!!
It is us..THE FAN(ATIC) that spreads the roots to grow your sport(TREE), and keeps it alive and growing. ENOUGH SAID!!

Imagine the disappointment on my face this morning when I sat at my desk
waiting for my computer to start up, in anticipation of going to mlb.com and
seeing the list of licensed fantasy providers. What a bummer when I searched
and searched the mlb.com sight only to not find such a list.
Oh well,
letdown #1 and the season hasn't even officially started yet, how many more
fantasy letdowns will I suffer through mlb.com?
Wait, help is here, it's called super CDM and they have just what I want in

BTW BB, you didn't answer my question yesterday as to whether Canseco paid

02/14 13:10:36 bb24 Iwona
Using BB's logic, schools across America should have to pay Clinton or Bush every time they discuss their policies in school. Sports Radio should have to refrain from discussing Bonds, unless they are willing to pay the player for bringing up his name over the air. Where does it stop, it seems a mighty slippery slope.
02/14 12:40:09 bb88 Formula and Diapers
Your number 2 comment should apply to this bb person. Would the real Bob Bowman please stand up.
02/14 12:35:40 bb88 Formula and Diapers
bb's comment "...to watch commercials or even why pay for a ticket to the game itself." Is this guy trying to get some commission to get you to buy the MLBTV package? I wonder how many owners would like to hear this guy about saying this is better than buying tickets to the game. Aren't commercials where the money's at more than going after the fantasy baseball industry; stick a few commercials between innigns on the MLBTV. Are these guys just interns?
Good call Rich on Canseco book. I see player names showing negative images there. Did those players or MLBPA give permission?
02/14 12:03:30 bf107 Hawk`s Thrashers
This idiot is glad we are not talking about what we "pay" in this discussion??? Isn't this what it is all about. If CDM thought it could get reimbursed for these "fees", why would CDM care? They wouldn't. But they also know that they would not get reimbused because fans have been taking it up the rear by baseball for far to long. If forced to pay baseball for the right to play, I guarantee 90% of fantasy baseball would go back to the office where it started and tell MLB to go screw itself.
02/14 11:29:25 bb99 Comfortably Numb MAC
I'll hold off until after your list of licensees is out tomorrow for any
discussion on that. However I will answer your question of how I would feel
if someone was using my name for commercial purposes.
1. If it drew attention to my business, was basically free advertising for
me I would have no problem with it.
2. If it was someone trying to pass themselves off as me or my business in
order to draw customers away from me, yes that would be a concern and would
be fought and stopped.
3. If I made the money these atheletes make for playing a game (I'm not
against them getting paid what they do BTW) I would actually be honored that
my name and stats could draw people to the sport. I'd think that baseball
would welcome anything that brings positive #s to it's fan base.
I wonder how many of those fans may have been lost after last nights 60
minutes interview, which brings up another question,
has Jose Canseco paid
his license fee so he could write the book?
Until tomorrow's list comes out have a good day

You must be reading stuff from CDM, as there is not one defensive or
"name-calling" item in my email.
Further, to be honest, you did not
answer
my question about how you would like your name used for commercial
purposes
without your approval.
Finally, you raise an interesting point about whom
should pay whom for participating in a spectator sport. Your point of
view
is not without merit, but it would also extend to why you should pay for
extra innings, as you would be there to watch commercials or even why pay
for a ticket to the game itself.
The sports industry seems to have migrated to the other forms of
entertainment where the fans who support it at every turn also seem to
support it financially quite a bit, as well. You pay for cable, for
internet access, for tickets and even for fantasy. Fortunately this
discussion is not about what you yourself pay, only about the licensee.
Before we continue this, though, perhaps it is best if you wait until
Tuesday to discover who the licensees are.
We all know CDM's position and
I
think I understand yours as well.

Wow, you went from a pretty nice discussion in your 2nd email reply to me to
now being very defensive, I though name calling was reserved for
politicians.
Now you are telling me that CDM refused your license, when the quote by one
of your VPs (which I included in one of my other emails) said "that you did
not offer a license to those that just came up with the same old thing"
I'm beginning to onder who is answering my questions, almost like 2
different people. Also you say CDM is the only one who had a license last
year that has not gotten one this year, sorry BB, I personally know of one
more company who hasn't taken you up on a license as of now, and have pretty
good info of a couple others that haven't yet gotten your license.
Also I can't believe that you want me to feel that the players making
millions of dollars would be getting slighted by somebody in fantasy
baseball. It's just the opposite, FANTASY BASEBALL builds fans and is
advertising for baseball and the MLBPA. Maybe you all should be paying these
fantasy outlets for getting your names/teams and game out to all of their
customers.
Thanks for showing MLBs true feelings

good letter, but wasted on these cretins; did they think before talking contraction publicly? do they ever think before doing anything? no, they look at things that any reasonable body would have done and say, oops, let's do SOMETHING; these people are "Office Space" personified: "Tell me, Bowman what exactly is it that you do here?"

I hope that you are trying to resolve the issue, and am glad to hear you say
that. However I do have some more questions (actually many more but I'll
keep it down) on the issue.
If in fact mlb.coms goal is to make fantasy baseball a better place so as to
attract more fans/players then why on earth would you want to cut off
exsisting games that already have many fans playing them?
Since it is my understanding that some of these providers were not offered
the chance to continue their game, only the opportunity to send their
customers to mlb.com. How is that not infringing on their right to do
business?
Does mlb.com provide the "stats" to these fantasy providers in the form that
they use to run their games?
Let's say I own a "stats service" and I pay $xxx to mlb.com for the rights
to these stats. Then in turn I sell these stats to Joe's Fantasy Sports
formated so that he can use them.
Why does he have to pay you for a license
when he is not getting those stats from you but is buying them from one of
your licensed outlets?
Do any companies that use MLB Stats for financial gain have to be licensed?
ie: Legal Sports Books, Sports Lounges/bars that show MLB games etc.
Finally, I looked at the announcement on mlb.com for the "fantasy opening
day" and see thaat "ultimate baseball" and "baseball commisher" are the
hyped games. Is this what you call new and improved fantasy games?
"Ultimate
baseball" has been around (and I believe available at mlb.com) for quite
awhile through Sporting News and quite frankly is a game that doesn't even
come close in quality CDMs cap style games.
Thanks for taking the time to answer my questions, I do appreciate it.

No quarrel on stats provided they are not real time.
However, when a
provider uses stats, with players' names in a commercial endeavor, well that
is well beyond public domain, first amendment stuff.
Nothing could be further from the truth with regard to current players. Of
course we want to protect and enable them to keep playing. We also want to
find other fans, as the NFL has, who might like fantasy, but don't have the
same time availability of other more traditional players.
We are endeavoring to resolve the issue so no player encounters friction.
Appreciate your thoughts. Thank you.

Bob Bowman

Mr Bowman
Thanks for your reply, I'l answer your off the topic question first. I use the extra innings package because I don't want to watch the games sitting at my computer, I want to relax, kick back in my recliner and enjoy flipping through the games watching my fantasy players.
Yes. there are two folks in this discussion, I just don't happen to agree that mlb.com owns the rights to the stats, and I also don't see where you have the right to put a company out of business just because they won't pay you a licenseing fee for something that isn't yours to license. It seems you all just don't realize what the fantasy player is about, below is a statement atrributed to one of your VPs on how you sent out requests for (I guess) license requests from the other fantasy companies.
"We put out a request for proposals for new licenses, asking for exciting and new ideas and ways to get more people playing the game," said George Kliavkoff, MLB Advanced Media's senior vice president of business development. "A (group) of Web sites gave us (strong) proposals. Others, it was same-old, same-old. We don't want same-old, same-old. That's not going to further the business.
"And that's not what we are interested in."
I consider his statement of, "we don't want the same old same old" as telling me (and all the other true fantasy baseball players) that you don't care how I feel and you will not let me play the game I want to play and have played for years. Take your new games and your bells and whistles and offer them to anyone that wants them, that's fine by me, but don't take the real game of fantasy baseball away from those who want to play it.
You say you want CDM to buy your license, however from what I've read you did not even offer them a license, just the opportunity to send their customers your way.
As for your "car story" example, I'll answer it with this.
What if you make and sell golfclubs, and you do business (a pretty nice one also) out of your house. Now all of a sudden one of the local retailors that has a store front operation decides he doesn't want you doing business because you may be hurting his business. Do you close your doors? I didn't, I fought it and stayed open.
Once again I'll say that mlb.com will lose many of the real fans over something like this, but hey, good luck to you.
Thanks
Rich

Thank you for writing. I am surprised that you don't use the MLB.TV package instead of extra innings, as it contains every game of the 2430 game season. But I digress. We too wish that CDM would be a licensee as they were last year, and indeed they still may become one. As I am sure you know, CDM is embroiled in a lawsuit with the NFLPA and is having squabbles with the MLBPA, as I understand things. So while your points are valid, here is a question for you-why is that one and only one provider of fantasy wants to fight so much with those who own the rights? We obviously do not want to cause any problems for the fans of fantasy, but in this situation, what would you do? Let's say someone has been borrowing your car every day for the past year. Now you get a job and need the car. What do you do?
This much I know. There will be more licensees this year than last and more players this year than last. I remain hopeful that there is no friction for those of you who prefer the CDM game, but I do believe that there are two folks in this discussion.

I have a question for you concerning your new fantasy baseball policy. MLB.coms statement is that they are trying to expand and better the fantasy expierence for the fan. If this is in fact true why is it that mlb.com/mlbam is trying to stop one of fantasy sports best providers from offering their product to the fantasy player?
CDM Fantasy Sports has had the best fantasy baseball games I have played, and I've played quite a few over the past 8 years. Now it seems that you/mlb.com has decided that CDM should not be given the opportunity to continue doing this.
I speak for myself here, but I'm sure many many other fantasy baseball/baseball fans feel the same way, if you take away the game that I play you will lose any and all money that I would normally spend on MLB games/products/Extra Inning Package/tickets etc.
That may not mean much to you, it obviously doesn't or your company would not be taking the stance of depriving me of playing the game I love, but multiply myself times the many others that feel the same way and it mounts up.
What you feel is good for the fantasy baseball fan is pointed to people that don't come close to being fantasy baseball players, we already have what we want.
Thank you
